Chagrin Falls Alumni Hall of Fame
Class of 1998

Brooke was a success on the tennis court at Chagrin and during her college years at Kenyon College. She was 1st team all-conference during all of her high school and college years. The highlight of her high school career was a state runner-up finish in her senior year. Brooke was further recognized as the Plain Dealer “Player of the Year.” She was also a 4-year starter on the softball team and had the CVC highest batting average during her senior season (.786). Her tennis career continued at Kenyon where she earned many honors: Div. III All-American in (’02), North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Year (’02) and Newcomer of the Year (’99). Brooke is tied for 11th in career singles wins with 70. She finished her collegiate career with a singles record of 70 – 29, a winning percentage of .707. Her doubles career record of 64 – 30 (.681) places her 9th in the Kenyon record books. She also qualified for the NCAA Div. III Tournament in 2000 & ’02 in singles.

Katie Kruse

Chagrin Falls Alumni Hall of Fame
Class of 1999

Katie was a 3-sport star at Chagrin earning 11 varsity letters [Soccer (4), basketball (4), & softball (3)]. She started all four years on the soccer squad that included a state title, four state final four appearances and four conference championships with an overall record of 75 – 6 – 6. During Katie’s senior soccer season she would earn 1st Team All-Ohio and MVP honors from the News-Herald, Sun Newspaper, Chagrin Valley Conference, All-Greater Cleveland. In basketball, Katie would be a 3-year starter for a program that won a state title, finished as state runner-up and made the state final four all 3 seasons. The basketball team went 85 – 18 over her four year high school career. Katie would also earn All-District, 1st Team All-CVC and 1st Team News-Herald honors. Katie would further her soccer career at the University of Maryland where she was a 4-year letter winner and 2-year starter. Her teams qualified for three NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournaments, and Katie earned ACC All-Academic honors from 2001 – 03.

Jimmy Leffler

Chagrin Falls Alumni Hall of Fame
Class of 1999

Jimmy would finish his Chagrin athletic career with 11 varsity letters [Soccer (2), Football (2), Basketball (3), Baseball (4)] and All-CVC honors in each of the four sports. He would earn 1st Team CVC in Baseball & Football (’97) & 2nd Team in Basketball (’98, ’99) & Soccer (’96). Although he would gain Honorable Mention All-Ohio as Wide Receiver in football (’97), he would garner his greatest success on the baseball field. Jimmy is still the CFHS record holder in Home Runs, RBIs, Doubles and Complete Games. His baseball career continue at Baldwin Wallace College. As a 4-year starter, he was selected for the Outstanding Freshman Award (’00), “Big Stick Award” (‘01) and “Gold Glove Award” (‘03). He would be selected 3-time All Mideast Region, 1st Team All-Conference, & All-Academic Ohio Athletic Conference in Baseball. He is the BW career leader in games (143) & Assists (404), and Season Leader in Assists (128).

Diana Munz DePetro

Chagrin Falls Alumni Hall of Fame
Class of 2000

Diana has been the most decorated Chagrin athlete winning a gold and silver medal at the 2000 Sydney Summer Olympics and a bronze at the 2004 Athens Summer Olympics. In 2000, Diana was a member on the American record-breaking 800-Meter Freestyle Relay Team, which won the gold & individually won silver in the 400-Meter freestyle. Her bronze medal in 2004 was in the 800-Meter Freestyle. She would participate in her first Olympic Trials in 8th grade at age 13 in the 400 & 800 Meter Freestyle Events. Over the years Diana won 21 national swimming titles and 7 medals in world championships. She was honored with the Kiphuth Award at the 2002 U.S. Spring Nationals as the highest individual women’s scorer. Diana was a 2-time State Champion (’97 & ’98) and Div. I record holder in the 500-yard Freestyle (4:45.54), while swimming for Chagrin.

ERIK SPEED

Chagrin Falls Alumni Hall of Fame
Class of 1986

Erik Speed will always be remembered as one of Chagrin’s finest wrestlers. Possessed with superior strength, quickness and all-around skills, he often made a tough sport look effortless. He earned four varsity letters, qualifying three times for the Division II State Meet. As a senior he placed 2nd in the state. As a junior he finished 5th. Erik’s high school career record was 96-23-1. In 1985 he was named to Mat Magazine’s High School All-American 2nd-team. He was on the magazine’s Academic All-American 1st team. He won two regional championships and twice he was his team’s MVP. As a senior he was All Chagrin Valley Conference 1st-team. He was a winner at the East-West All Star Meet. Erik earned a scholarship to Cornell University where he became a varsity letterman.

Chagrin Falls Alumni Hall of Fame
Class of 1980

Jon’s leadership and athletic skills helped his teams win several championships during his years at Chagrin Falls High School. He excelled in baseball, football and basketball, and was a team captain in each sport. In baseball he was 1st-team All-Conference during his junior and senior years. He was selected to the Plain Dealer’s All-Greater Cleveland Team and Dream Team. Leading his team to a Chagrin Valley Conference Championship as a senior, he won the league’s Most Valuable Player Award. In football he was All-Conference and won the Golden Helmet Award for the Greater Cleveland Area. In 1980 Jon’s basketball team won league, sectional and district titles. He was chosen for the All-District Tourney Team. He played professional baseball for two years in the Cincinnati Reds organization.

KENNETH R. WILEY

Chagrin Falls Alumni Hall of Fame
Class of 1951

Ken was an outstanding all-around athlete at Chagrin Falls High School. He earned nine varsity letters. In football he was a 3-year letterman and co-captain of his team as a senior. During his junior and senior years he was his team’s leading scorer in basketball. Ken was selected as Most Valuable Player of the District Basketball Tournament in 1951. He was also a top performer in track and field, placing in the discus at the District Meet in 1951. He was a successful coach during his long career in education. He coached football, basketball, track and tennis.

ERIC HARSH

Chagrin Falls Alumni Hall of Fame
Class of 1988

Eric won many races and awards as a track and cross country standout at Chagrin Falls High School. His last race was his best. As a senior in track he won a state championship in the 1600 meters. Earlier that season he established new Chagrin Valley Conference records in the 1600 meters and the 3200 meters. In his final cross country season Eric was selected as the CVC’s Most Valuable Player. He placed 12th in the State Cross Country Meet. At Indiana University he ran three years varsity cross country and three years indoor/outdoor track and field.

PETER STEELE VAN NORT

Chagrin Falls Alumni Hall of Fame
Class of 1955

During his career at Chagrin Falls, Peter earned three letters in football, quarterbacking the team his junior and senior year. He was second in scoring his senior year and first during his junior year on the basketball team amassing 548 points in just those two seasons, while receiving 1st Team All County honors in his junior season. However, it was in track that he really shone, earning letters all four years, placing at the state meet a total five times. As a junior, Peter finished 5th in the State in the 120 High Hurdles, and as a senior he was 4th in the 120-Yard High Hurdles and 2nd in the State in the 180 Low Hurdles. He also ran on the 880 yard relay team that was 4th in his junior year and 2nd his senior year. His efforts helped Chagrin earn a 5th place at the state track meet in 1955. Peter continued his outstanding athletic career at the Naval Academy where he earned a total of 9 athletic letters, more than any other in his class.

ARTHUR JOHN DAVIDSON

Chagrin Falls Alumni Hall of Fame
Class of 1959

Art moved to Chagrin in the spring of his sophomore year and immediately made his presence known on the track. While he also lettered in football and basketball, it was in track where he made his mark. During his junior year, he was third in the 100 and sixth in the 220. During his senior year, Art was undefeated in the 100 yard dash winning the state title. Art captained that season’s team that went through the 1959 season undefeated and took a 3rd place at the state meet. He went on to compete in track at Ohio Wesleyan University and captained the 1963 team.

WARREN R. WISE

Chagrin Falls Alumni Hall of Fame
Class of 1967

Warren played guard and linebacker and was co-captain of the 1966 football, but wrestling was, and still is his passion. Warren was a three time District qualifier and was a state semifinalist in his junior year. During his senior year, he was 10-0 in dual meets and named Most Valuable Wrestler on a team that won 22 straight meets. Warren has been a health, physical education and science teacher at North Canyon High School. He has continued with his passion for wrestling by coaching and officiating.

RACHEL FRESHMAN JOHNSON

Chagrin Falls Alumni Hall of Fame
Class of 1992

Rachel was a great all-around athlete, but was known best at Chagrin for her accomplishments as a gymnast. During her freshman year she qualified for the state meet in four areas and was named the Most Valuable Gymnast in the Chagrin Valley Conference, She also was named Most Valuable Gymnast in the conference her sophomore and senior year. She was injured most of her junior year, but still placed at the state meet with a fourth in the beam. During her senior year she qualified to the state meet in all 5 events and was named the Northeast Ohio District Scholar Athlete of the Year. She was the captain of both the gymnastics team and varsity football cheerleading squad during her senior year.

TRAVIS PETERSON KRUSE

Chagrin Falls Alumni Hall of Fame
Class of 1995

Travis earned 12 varsity letters in four sports while at Chagrin. During his four year career in soccer he scored an amazing total of 62 goals, once getting 5 in one game. During his senior year he became one of the top scorers on the football team in his role as the kicker (punter/place-kicker/field goal kicker). Also in that year, he qualified for the OHSAA state track meet in the high jump. Additionally, he was very successful in the long jump. Come winter, he spent three seasons on the varsity basketball team. Travis continued with his soccer at the University of Pittsburgh where he was named captain of his team during his senior year. He also did double duty as the place-kicker/punter for the football team during his sophomore year. Travis played professional soccer with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds and the Cleveland Crunch.

Chagrin Falls Alumni Hall of Fame
Class of 1970

Steve was a great all-around athlete, earning 11 letters during his career at Chagrin. He was a 4 year starter in baseball where he did everything but catch. In football, Steve was a 3 year starter playing defensive back and quarterback. He also excelled in basketball as a 3 year starter at the guard position. He was selected for several all league teams. While in college, Steve played basketball in Iran as an exchange student at American University. Steve joins his brother Bob in the Athletic Hall of Fame, and his father Ken who is a member of the Heritage Hall of Fame.

SHAWN CONLEY BOTTCHER

Chagrin Falls Alumni Hall of Fame
Class of 1991

Shawn is one of the best female runners to ever graduate from Chagrin. She was a 3 time letter winner in both cross-country and track and was captain of both teams her senior year. During her senior year she was selected 1st Team All-CVC and All-Ohio in cross country. During her senior year at Baldwin Wallace College, she was named the school’s Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year and earned All-American honors.
